Students must know the potential danger in mishandling computer hardware. Put-up laboratory rules at the entrance of each computer laboratory as given below:

Laboratory Rules

1. Don't drink or eat in the computer laboratory
2. Don't fiddle with cables or electrical plugs
3. Don't use the laboratory if you have not obtained the teacher's permission
4. Don't unnecessarily print and waste paper
5. Don't litter the laboratory with discarded paper
6. Don't load new software from your diskettes
7. Don't use diskettes from unknown source
8. Clear your desk before you leave the laboratory

Schools should acquire necessary manuals and important textbooks and place them in the computer laboratory under lock and key. They can be used by the students and the teachers in the laboratory. All laboratory classes must be timetabled. Each student undergoing ICT studies need at least 100 minutes of laboratory time every week. All the laboratory classes must be supervised. Teachers in charge of computer laboratories are expected to perform some routine maintenance of the hardware in the laboratories. Some guidelines are given bellow:

· Periodically, check the disk space on the file server and student work stations. Delete unnecessary files where necessary. Note any abnormal activity (such as loading of new software, deletion of any existing software, etc.) and warn the students.

· Make sure students occupy the same computer in every laboratory class. This enables the teachers to monitor their activities and also to trace any virus sources

· Prepare a seating arrangement plan for your reference.

· Advice the students on the possibility of virus attacks and periodically scan all the computers in the laboratory

· Defragment the student's computer at least once in a week.

· Make sure all the computers are covered with dust free covers to prevent dust falling on them.
